Yoga means “union” and it informs everything I am and everything I do. By honoring the truth of unity within ourselves and the profound ways in which all living beings are connected, I experience the teachings of yoga as not just shapes we make on a mat, but a fundamental blueprint for how to live a good life, how to liberate our bodies and minds, and how to live in right relationship to each other and the earth.
Yoga has been the through line of my career since I completed my first teacher training in Forrest Yoga in 2007. In the 15+ years since then, I’ve gone on to complete an additional 500-hr. teacher training in alignment-based yoga and have had the pleasure of sharing yoga with adults, children and families in a variety of studio, home, and outreach settings. I continue to immerse in additional learning and develop new teaching tools whenever possible.
Highlights include:
Trauma Informed Brain-Sensitive Yoga training (TIBS) with Sarahjoy Marsh
“Seeing and Understanding Bodies” seminars with Gay White and Ada Lusardi
The development and facilitation of a trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness program for women undergoing substance use treatment at Coffee Creek Correctional Institution
Curriculum development and facilitation for yoga and mindfulness based trauma support services at The Pathfinder Network’s The Center for Community and Engagement
Yoga for Families class at The Yoga Room, Berkeley
Unwinding the Nervous System workshop at The Yoga Room, Berkeley
Co-creator of yoga for summer camps
While I don’t currently teach any public group classes, I’m available for private sessions for individuals, families and groups either in person in the comfort of your own home or workplace and/or remotely. I aim to make yoga accessible for everybody regardless of age, shape, ability, etc. I’ve worked with folks in hospice, toddlers in nursery school and everything in between. I offer a practice that’s deep, balancing, creative and nourishing. I provide ample instruction and hands-on adjustments to help people explore the practice in a safe and supported manner.
Rates vary depending on location, group size and desired length of session. Please contact me to discuss. I’m happy to answer any questions and help support you in developing a nourishing yoga practice for your mind, body and spirit.
“Dalia is a wonderful human being and yoga teacher. My daughter and I have been getting a private class from her for almost a year, and it’s the best thing that I have done for myself in a long time. She is able to teach our varied level of experience, and does it with compassion and humor, all while maintaining the vision for the practice. I am extremely grateful that she has come into our lives.” –Amy Brueggemeyer
“Having participated in a boot camp style class for decades, I was intrigued with finding a complimentary practice more aligned with Eastern medicine and my Internet searches led me to Iyengar yoga. I first met Dalia at Yoga Room Berkeley more than a decade ago, when I sought weekly instruction to improve my general overall health (e.g., breathing, balance and strength (without weights). I loved my time spent training with her, using all the props and finding strength and empowerment through new positions. Dalia Narayan is a gifted instructor with a gentle, compassionate style of coaching one to explore the benefits of yoga.
Unfortunately I was not able to continue taking full advantage of her yoga instruction as Dalia’s journey took her to Portland, Ore. and, at 72, I was diagnosed with breast cancer just when Covid was surfacing across the nation. Dalia offered me her support and instruction via Zoom. I gladly accepted and she continued to offer her expertise with gentle, nurturing positions, stretching, and breathing, during my cancer treatments. I became aware that my yoga practice was a gift that supported my healing, giving me a sense of physical and emotional well-being. My family, friends, doctors and therapists all remarked on my positive attitude and how well it served me throughout my treatment and recovery. I am deeply grateful.
Today, four years cancer free, I continue to look forward to my weekly opportunities to work with Dalia. Inadvertently, she has become a member of my ongoing recovery team for unanticipated side effects from chemotherapy and radiation. Each week, Dalia faithfully coaches me through positions, breathing and thoughts to strengthen my body and mind. Her sessions help me achieve a space of meditative nurturing I cannot achieve alone. As long as I am able, I plan to continue my journey learning, nurturing and honoring my body and mind with Dalia’s ongoing instruction. She has greatly expanded my horizon of what deeply and truly nourishes me.” -Diane Kanegae
